Matney has been working and riding horses pretty much her whole life. Her heart-centered connection with horses prompted her to become a Ken McNabb Certified Master Trainer and the youngest person ever accepted into the Human-Equine Alliances for Learning (HEAL) equine facilitated learning program. Currently, she is a teacher and trainer here at NWNHC and is working towards certification as a PATH International Equine Specialist and therapeutic riding instructor. She has also worked as a horse camp wrangler, counselor and curriculum development specialist.
Chris is a long-time art teacher, photographer, quilter, and mom. For more than six years she has been teaching art to children age 5-11 in the Lake Washington School District, most recently at Christa McAuliffe and Helen Keller Elementary Schools. She has been responsible for the art education and care for as many as 45 children at a time. Her broad experience in the arts and her love of children makes her a "favorite teacher" and a highly creative individual. For the NWNHC camps she broadens the children's artistic horizons with innovative art projects and stretches their creative abilities. Chris has a degree in Applied Art and Design from Cal Poly University.
